The Best Place to See…..Whales

It is possible to go whale watching on both the Atlantic and the Pacific coasts – the type of whale and the best time to go varies with the whales migratory habits.

Monterey Bay, California is one of your best bets for year round viewing. Blue and humpback whales cruise past between April and December and California grey whales hang out December to April.

If you want to see Orcas head for Puget Sound in Washington State. You can catch a whale watching trip from several places along the coast, e.g. Seattle or Port Townsend from May until the end of September.

On the Atlantic coast, try Virginia Beach, Virginia for humpback whales from December until March and fin whales during the winter. If you are in New York State during the summer  head for Long Island to spot a whole host of different whale species and head to Cape Cod between April and October to look for humpback whales.

It turns out that after endless whale watching trips and many  sightings we can’t find a decent picture of a whale either so here is a picture of some sea where a whale was a minute ago……
