The coast of California is home to large populations of harbour seals and sea lions and it is worth keeping an eye out whenever you are near the sea.

However, particularly good spots are the Children’s Pool Beach at La Jolla which is a great place to see harbour seals and Point Lobos State Park near Carmel. This is a truly wonderful place and offers great views of seals, sea lions and otters.

If I’m not at Point Lobos, my personal favourite spot for watching for sea lions is Pier 39 at Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco.
