Chicago with kids

Like any large city, Chicago has plenty going on to make it a great family destination. The downtown area is very compact and easy to explore on foot which is handy if you have small children and don’t want to struggle with public transport and buggies. It’s position on the shore of Lake Michigan also means that there is plenty of outside space and lots of activities where active kids can run off steam.

There are countless family friendly restaurants and the local deep dish pizza is both inexpensive and hugely filling so you will not have to worry about taking out a second mortgage if your family includes some with voracious appetites!

Finally, although Chicago is a buzzing metropolis, it is also a Midwest city. The pace of life is less frenetic than you might expect and there is a friendliness that is often lacking in big cities. This is one of the reasons I like it as an adult but it also makes life easier if you are travelling with a family.
