Cooke City – Silver Gate, Montana

Cooke City – Silver Gate, Montana

There are two communities adjacent to the Northeast Entrance, Silver Gate and Cooke City and they almost merge into one another along the main road out of the Park. Between them, the communities house a few inns and B&Bs, a couple of campgrounds as well as a couple of bars and restaurants, cafes and a bakery. The area has a frontier feel with lots of log cabins and a very rustic laid-back feel.

Staying here gives the best access to the Lamar valley so is a good place to stay if you are keen to see wolves. It is also a good base if you want to go fly-fishing as several companies run tours from this area.

I have never stayed in either Cooke City or Silver Gate but am reliably advised that Cooke City’s Elk Horn Lodge is a good bet for somewhere to stay.
