For convenience and value for money, the Affinia chain is hard to beat. If you’re pushing the boat out then the Tribeca Grand is a great choice and still pretty good value. For art deco glamour head to the Waldorf Astoria for a glimpse of yesteryear.

New York hotels are famously expensive but there are deals to be had.  It’s worth thinking about where you want to base your stay.  Midtown is convenient for all the sites and is often a slightly cheaper location.  Downtown probably has more in the way of attractions and quality restaurants but it’s so easy to get around that I wouldn’t let that bother you.  Uptown is usually very expensive, particularly around Central Park.  To save you lots of time, we’ve done the legwork for you. Here is our pick of New York’s hotels.

Our Top 5 NYC hotels…

1) Tribeca Grand

For something quite luxurious consider the Tribeca Grand, it comes with a price tag but there are some deals available.

2) Affinia chain

Another alternative is a suite hotel.  These are really common in the States and offer you a kitchenette and often a separate lounge area. Amazingly, they are often quite good value and are particularly useful for families as you can book an apartment with a separate bedroom(s) and also having a fridge is great!  They also mean you can save money on breakfast if you want which can save you quite a bit of money (not to mention calories) if you are in NYC for more than a couple of days.

Brooklyn Bridge

Brooklyn Bridge

Suite hotels in Manhattan include the Affinia chain which has several hotels throughout Manhattan.  I can particularly recommend the Affinia Dumont which is very close to the Empire State Building or the Affinia Shelburne, also in midtown which has recently been renovated.

3) Staybridge Suites

Staybridge Suites are another option for a suite style hotel. They have generally good reviews, and are based close to Times Square so a very central location.

4) The Benjamin Hotel

The Benjamin Hotel is a pricier option than some of the others but is in a good location at 50th Street. The hotel is family friendly with a lending library of kids books and kid sized bath robes. They are also obsessed with providing a good night’s sleep for residents with blackout blinds, a pillow menu and a host of other provisions to ensure you rest well.

5) Hotel Le Jolie

One way to save money might be to base yourself outside of Manhattan.  Brooklyn offers a dynamic area to stay with some great restaurants, and is on the main subway route as well as easily walkable via the Brooklyn Bridge.  Hotel le Jolie may not be the most glamorous of hotels but is is good value and offers a free continental breakfast as well as free wifi throughout.
