Theatre

Times Square, NYC

When you think of New York Theatre then you immediately think of Broadway but there is much more to the theatre scene in NYC than the full scale productions and musicals that Broadway itself is famed for.  In fact really, you could see most of those at home in the West End or on tour in Britain’s major cities.  So why not try something a little different and take the opportunity to see an off-Broadway show.  There are literally dozens of theatres in NYC with an ever-changing programme of performances.  Time Out New York, like the London version is the standard guide for news and reviews of what’s on in terms of theatre (as well as everything else!)  You can pick up a copy at any newsstand and many hotels keep them in the rooms.  Alternatively http://www.newyorkcitytheatre.com/index_off_broadway.php is a great guide to what’s on off-Broadway.

If there’s something you especially want to see then you will need to book in advance for most performances.  The TKTS ticket booth in Times Square offers last minute (day of performance) tickets at up to 50% discount prices.  You will have to queue but for 50% off it’s probably worth it!  See the TKTS website for details http://www.newyorkcitytheatre.com/index_off_broadway.php

Booking attractions in advance can be a great way of saving money, avoiding queues and spreading the cost of your holiday.
