National Parks – Teens

El Capitan, the climbing mecca, Yosemite National Park

There are many pluses to taking your teen to one of the Parks – for starters there is often no phone signal so even if they have brought themselves a data package (or bribed you to get one for them) their smart phone will be fairly useless within the Park so you may actually get to talk to them. If you fear a breakdown unless they get a fix it is advisable to stay somewhere with wifi.

Activities vary from Park to Park but if your teen is in any way interested in photography or art, the parks are great places to provide inspiration and unique subject matter. For budding astronomers, several of the parks offer great night skies, as they are a long way from any light pollution. Many of the Parks offer a range of outdoor activities such as climbing, white water rafting, kayaking, canoeing, horse riding, hiking, swimming, cycling, fishing, cross country and downhill skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling depending on the Park and the time of year.
