Miami South Beach

South Beach is a great place for ambling around, soaking up the atmosphere and watching the world go past from a cafe or bar. I like to walk the length of Ocean Drive, there is always something going on and there are plenty of places to stop for a cool drink and a rest in the shade. The people watching is fabulous.

My preferred first day of holiday in Miami consists of a slow meander along Ocean Drive, stopping for brunch on the way to South Pointe Park where I like to stop for a rest and a paddle and watch the surfers and the cruise ships go past. You then have the option of either walking back up Ocean Drive or along the beach, or if too shattered, walking up Washington Avenue to the nearest bus stop. I tend to find I can absolutely manage the walk once I have bribed myself with the promise of either a beer or an ice cream along Ocean Drive on the return leg. It’s a hard life……

You should also make sure you take a least a short wander along Ocean Drive at night, even if you are staying elsewhere in Miami and you have small children with you. The neon on the Art Deco looks fabulous and the atmosphere is great.

In addition to the beach, the Art Deco and Ocean Drive, Miami South Beach has museums, shops, restaurants, bars, nightclubs and all manner of other fun stuff. We have more details in the navigation on the left.
