The Everglades Airboat Tours

If you are a fan of CSI Miami you will have seen Horatio speeding through the Everglades on an airboat several times. I am reliably informed this was also a feature of a 60s TV series called Gentle Ben (thank you Anna) for those of you who are not CSI fans but enjoyed Saturday morning TV in your youth.

Airboats are in fact prohibited in much of the Park due to their negative impact on the environment. However, the Park authorities have allowed a number of private operators to operate on the perimeter of the Park and some operate just outside the Parks boundaries.

We have never been on an airboat tour so cannot recommend an operator but there are several off the Tamiami Trail between Naples and Miami. Everglades City is a good place to pick up information.
