The Everglades Campgrounds – Where to Stay in the Park

Unlike many of the other Parks, The Everglades Campgrounds are the only accommodation actually within the Park itself.

Campsites in Flamingo & Long Pine

There are two campsites in the Park, at Long Pine (not far from the Ernest F Coe Visitor Center) and at Flamingo. Please be aware that the Park service advise the campsites can be very uncomfortable in the wet season – June until November and mosquitoes are potentially a problem at all times. Long Pine operates on a first come, first served basis and does not accept reservations. Flamingo does accept reservations and as space is limited it is wise to book through the recreation.gov website below.

There are also 2 houseboats available for hire in Flamingo. We have never stayed on one so cannot advise but if this appeals try the following link for further information.

Wilderness Camping

If getting truly off the beaten track is your thing there are apparently 46 places you can camp in the

Park including beach and ground sites as well as elevated platforms. These sites are only accessible by canoe / kayak and some by hikers. We have no experience whatsoever of backcountry camping so cannot give advice. You will need a permit and normally have to collect this from the Park authorities a day or two before the start of your trip. Please remember that wilderness means a different scale of remoteness to that which we are used to in our Parks in the UK so please talk to the Park Service to ensure you are adequately prepared for your trip.
