The Everglades Where to Stay Outside the Park

The Everglades Where to Stay Outside the Park

The Everglades Where to Stay Outside the Park

If, like me, you are not a camper and your idea of a good day out at a swamp ends with probably a swim, and definitely a cool shower and a cold beer, there are a number of places to stay within easy reach of the Park. There are also plenty of places to camp outside the Park should be so minded. Just remember those mozzies…….

When planning your trip to The Everglades where to stay will depend on which side of the Park you are visiting.

If you want good access to Shark Valley, Big Cypress Bend and the boat trips at Everglades City you are best to stay on the Gulf Coast, either in Everglades City itself, on Marco Island or in Naples.

If you want good access to the eastern part of the Park; the main visitor center (Ernest F. Coe), Royal Palm and Flamingo, then you are better off staying at either Florida City or Homestead.

Miami, a good option for visiting The Evergaldes

Miami is another good option from which to visit The Everglades. Personally, if in Miami I would always stay at South Beach where there is a great range of accommodation, restaurants and many ways to have a fabulous time. It is easy to access The Everglades in a couple of day trips from South Beach using the Expressway to get to either Shark Valley or to Royal Palm. Shark Valley is the slightly more accessible of the two – the drive takes just under an hour. The drive to Royal Palm takes around an hour and ten minutes. For more details see our City guide to Miami.
