Miami Sanibel Island & Captiva

Miami Sanibel Island & Captiva

Miami Sanibel Island, Captiva and the Everglades

All distances and times are indicative and do not include stops.

Total miles round trip; 340

Total drive time round trip;  6 hours 30 minutes

How long do I need? This is one that is quite possible to do in a week without rushing, ten days if you want to take it really slow

This is a relatively short road trip and is great for families with younger children or anyone looking for some peace and quiet (once you have left Miami that is). You get to incorporate the vibrancy of Miami with the tranquillity of The Everglades and the quiet island life of Sanibel and if you really want it peaceful, Captiva. These two islands are separated from the Gulf Coast of Florida by a causeway just north of Fort Myers. They boast fabulous beaches and a range of amenity; casual restaurants, a grocery store, some shops, boat trips and the wonderful Ding Darling nature reserve.

We recommend Holiday Autos or Easycar for car hire. Check out our car hire info for ways to save money. You may want to cover your excess and increase your liability cover with a policy like that from Worldwide Insure or Insurance4carhire.com.

Book a package…

Sometimes you just don’t have the time or inclination to plan and book a trip independently, that’s when booking through a tour operator makes sense.

Kuoni will happily create a fly drive itinerary for you that includes a trip to Sanibel and Captiva. They also feature the South Seas Island Resort and have alternate hotel options on Sanibel.
