Where to stay Top 5 Hotels

Washington DC has an enormous number of hotels. It has to accommodate all the people who flood into town when Congress is sitting, not to mention the tourists. This can make choosing your hotel really difficult as you have to wade through endless options on the review sites.

To save you lots of time, we’ve done the legwork for you. Here is our pick of Washington’s hotels.

Our Top 5 Washington DC hotels…

1) The Hay-Adams.

If you are looking for a luxury historic hotel, this one is for you. Full of character, antiques and ornate fittings and right opposite the White House, this is a grande dame hotel albeit one with Frette bed linen and free wi-fi.

2)Hotel Palomar

If you prefer a more modern look then we like the Hotel Palomar and stayed here on our last trip to DC. It is well located, just off Dupont Circle, within easy walking distance of plenty of eating and drinking options and the Metro, and only half a mile from Georgetown. In our experience the extra money for an executive room is worth it for the additional space. We particularly like the very comfy beds (again with the Frette), the free wi-fi and the wine reception. A nice surprise to walk into after a hard days foot slogging.

3)Avenue Suites Georgetown

If you are travelling with a family or in a group, a great option is the Avenue Suites Georgetown. This apart hotel has one bedroomed suites with separate living room and a full kitchen. There is an outside terrace and a bar serving drinks and light meals on site and free wi-fi. The hotel is in a great location. The restaurants and shops of Georgetown are a short walk away and it is close to the Foggy Bottom Metro station.

4)Hampton Inn Washington, D.C./White House

For a great all rounder, the Hampton Inn Washington, D.C./White House is an excellent choice. It has an indoor pool to ease weary legs, complimentary wi-fi and complimentary breakfast every morning. It is a new hotel so everything is nice and shiny and it is very well located, right by the White House and less than 2 blocks from the metro.

5)Embassy Suites Washington Convention Center

For a great value choice, you can’t go far wrong with Embassy Suites Washington Convention Center. All rooms have separate living areas with a fridge and microwave. There is a complimentary breakfast and complimentary ‘managers reception’ each evening with drinks and snacks. There is a pool and free wi-fi in the lobby. The hotel is in a good location, it is slightly less than a mile to the Natural History Museum which is the nearest point on the Mall.
