Getting there

British Airways have direct flights from London Heathrow to Austin, making get there that much easier. They have good connections from other UK airports if you don’t want to drive to Heathrow.

Expedia and Skyscanner have a great range of options with other carriers connecting through US hubs.

Getting around

To get from the Airport to downtown Austin you can either catch the Airport Flyer bus, take a shuttle or a taxi. My preferred option is the bus which costs $1.50 per person for a single trip, or a taxi which costs around $25 to get from the Airport to say the Driskill hotel. A shuttle costs around $15 for the same trip so you only get a saving if you are travelling alone. Getting around You can see a lot of Austin on foot, but if you have tired legs or want to go further afield then you have a couple of options. Austin is one of the few smaller American cities to be blessed with a halfway decent public transport system. (If you know of others, please let us know). The MetroBus system offers a frequent, very well priced service with a good range of routes. Their website has information regarding fares and routes. We particularly like the ‘Exploring Austin’ tab which helpfully lists attractions, hotels, entertainment venues etc, to make route planning that bit easier as you only have to look up the details of one half of your trip. If the bus does not work for you it is easy to hail a taxi, or book one for a specific journey. Finally, Austin is fine to drive around if you have a hire car. Downtown parking can be very expensive though, so you can save a lot of money using the bus. If you do go for car hire, we recommend Easycar and Auto Europe .
