Block Island, Rhode Island

Block Island, Rhode Island

If you want to feel that sense of getting away from it all, without having to go too far from it all, then Block Island is a great option.  Lying just off the coast of Rhode Island, there are summer ferries from Connecticut, Long Island and Rhode Island connecting you to this tiny island, just 3 miles by 7 miles.  Known for its miles and miles of beautiful beaches, all free and open to the public.  As well as hiking trails, cliff walks and lighthouses.  Despite an increasing amount of visitors over the summer tourist season, it still seems quiet and laid back, without being isolated.  The summer months and into early Autumn are the best time to visit.

Go independent…

The easiest airports to fly into for a visit to Block Island from the UK are either Boston or New York.

Virgin Atlantic serve both airports and we love them for their family friendly approach and the latest in on board entertainment.

British Airways also serve both Boston and New York. They are particularly good if you need a UK connection and flying from the dedicated Terminal 5 has so far been a pretty pleasurable experience.

HomeAway.co.uk offer a good range of accommodation on the island (hotels are sparse)

Why not combine the trip with a city break. Our sections on Boston & New York have some great ideas for a spell in either city.
