Yosemite Where to Stay

It is worth taking some time when deciding where to stay in Yosemite. The Park covers a massive area so think about what you want to do and therefore, where it makes the most sense to be based. Don’t book at hotel at Wawona, for example, if you know you mainly want to spend time in the Valley. You will spend a lot of time in the car!

If you are driving to Yosemite from San Francisco, it probably makes sense to spend at least a couple of nights with good access to the valley, either within the Park itself or at El Portal.

You will also need to decide whether to stay inside or outside the Park itself and what type of accommodation you would like. As a general rule you pay extra for location so accommodation within the Park tends to be much more expensive than that outside, but this needs to be balanced against the additional time you may otherwise spend travelling.

Finally, although there is quite a lot of accommodation in the Park, it is very popular and does get booked up very quickly. Before you spend a lot of time trawling through all the various options it is worth checking availability for the dates you are considering. You may find the decision has been made for you!
