If you are into winter sports than there are a number great of places to head for during the winter. There are large resorts in the Rocky Mountains around Denver  – Vail and Aspen are nearby along with a plethora of other options. Further north in the Rockies you can head for Jackson, Wyoming.

California has some great options for skiing at Lake Tahoe and snowboarding at Mammoth Mountain. The plus side of a California trip is that if your family / party is a mix of winter sports enthusiasts and those who think skiing is a novel form of torture, it is easy to arrange a two centre trip with some time in say San Francisco or San Diego. Another good two centre option is Utah which also boasts a number of resorts, all within an easy drive of either Salt Lake City or Las Vegas which can make for an interesting trip.
