Pacific Northwest

The Pacific Northwest is also particularly nice during Autumn as this tends to be the driest period.

The Olympic National Park offers visitors an extraordinary level of ecological diversity from the Hoh Rainforest, to glacial mountains.  Visitors can make the most of hiking, cycling, kayaking, even skiing.  Visit the hot springs or partake in some whale watching from the beach.  The park is a great place to explore.

If you’re craving some urban stimulation then the cities of Portland and Seattle are also good destinations.  Seattle is famous for it’s temperate climate (raining all the time), being the home of the original Starbucks and of course the ‘Seattle sound’ of bands like Nirvana and Mudhoney.  It is however a very walkable city and fun to explore.  Contrary to it’s reputation, it doesn’t rain all the time and there are numerous great coffee shops beyond Starbucks to get your caffeine kick.  It also has some great restaurants & bars and you can still see some great bands!

Portland is well known for the variety and quality of it’s food trucks and microbreweries…what’s not to love about that?  It has a quirky feel about it and seems to have a liberal, green, cool attitude!

Go independent…

There aren’t any direct flights to Portland from the UK but Skyscanner is great for listing all the flight options.

Consider flying to Seattle with British Airways who offer a direct flight. BA also do city breaks to Seattle, combining a flight and hotel which can sometimes be cheaper than booking independently and is a great option if you’re starting a trip in the city.
